Growing tulips at home is easier than most people think. The bulbs need a cold period before they will flower, so many gardeners keep them in the fridge for a few weeks before planting. Once planted, they prefer a sunny spot and soil that drains well, as standing water will rot the bulb. A common mistake is cutting the leaves back too early — the plant uses them to store energy for the following season, so it is better to wait until they turn yellow on their own.
